1. Introduction
There are two types of water: Irrigation Water and Drinking Water.
- Irrigation water does not undergo any treatment. It is collected and transferred to rural areas for use in agriculture and livestock farming.
- Drinking water undergoes treatment and chlorination to make it safe for drinking. Drinking water supplies residential and industrial areas. Drinking water is also called potable water.
In water resources management we need to estimate current or future water demands for the following purposes
- Understand the future water needs and prepare a strategy for managing the demand.
- Plan the development of water resource works to meet future water demands
- Design water collection and storage infrastructure.
